These days, if you’re not implementing technology to help you be more productive, organized, and successful, in your job hunt…you’re probably behind the curve.  If you are truly serious about being hired, you really need to put your iPhone and computer to work.  Deciding which one may be right for you can prove to be a daunting task.  Never fear!  Your COACH is here!  After testing and researching most of the apps available, I have identified the following as the most helpful, useful, and novel apps out there.

Resume App – $2.99

This application provides an “on-the-go” simple way to quickly build, preview, and send a professional-looking PDF resume from your iPhone!  Also an option exists to include a generic cover-letter if the destination company/organization requires it. After generating the PDF, the application allows the user to PREVIEW the resume to confirm that it looks to his or her satisfaction. Then the user has the ability, with a press of a button, to send the document to an email address of your choice – the app also allows CC and BCC fields – Send it to yourself to have at your disposal, or send it directly to a company or recruiter!

Audio Job Interview Professional – $9.99

The key to a successful interview, one that could potentially land you a job, is preparation.   This app lets you pick and choose from a list of 40 questions creating a custom interview.  After making your selections, a woman’s voice will ask you each question.  When ready, you’ll hit the record button and begin answering each question individually. It is a great way to prepare your responses so that you can answer your interviewer confidently and quickly.

Hidden Jobs – $0.99

The Hidden Job Market accounts for between 60-80 per cent of actual job opportunities available at any given time.  This app is very simple: select your state and you get a list of news articles about companies who are hiring, growing, expanding.  Search the business on www.manta.com find out who is head or HR…find them on www.linkedin.com  and connect with them.    Mail your resume with a cover letter mentioning the article and how you want to be part of their expansion.  Invite the person featured in the article to join your LinkedIn network…make this a weekly routine.

Job Compass – $3.99

Job Compass is a useful, intuitive and well-designed application that takes out of the equation some of the more tedious aspects of searching for new employment. On launch the program asks permission to use your location as a base from which to perform a job search. After a few moments, a Google map pinned to your location appears and you’re invited to search for a job. Users can put in anything they want (now’s the time to think – what’s your dream job?) and choose to search for listings within a 5, 10, 25, 50 or 100 mile radius of their current location.

iJobs – $0.99

iJobs delivers millions of job listings to your iPhone. There is a keyword search that allows for searching against a word in a title, description, salary and more. In addition, there is an auto detect on your location, a zip code search and a feature that automatically saves your last search. Similar to the other applications, you can add jobs to your list of favorites and filter the results by category, company, title, industry and employee type.

ABContacts – $4.99

There is a lot of value in a contact management system. It saves you time from researching information about people you’ve already met, and can act as a reference sheet. It also allows you to keep organized and aware of which contacts you haven’t spoken to in a while, and who works at companies that you either want to collaborate with, or work for. The payoff of investing time in a contact management system is that you will be able to keep track of the people you meet, refer back to it, and grow it throughout the course of your life.  In order to expand your network, you need to target people who are in your industry, and those who share the same interests and passions that you have. Once you connect with them in-person, through e-mail or phone, put them into your contact management system.

The ABContacts apps focuses on managing your contacts and organizing them into groups, you can create dynamic groups based on rules. There are five different types of rules and they work on first name, last name, company, notes, job title, department and so on. Rules can be combined into even greater filters and Microsoft Outlook users can create these groups on the iPhone as well. You can show upcoming birthdays, events, unfilled contacts and more. There is an option to display contact pictures as well.
